RURAL HEALTH PROFESSIONS
RNURSING
The UIC College of Nursing now educates nurse leaders throughout Northern and Central Illinois. Understanding that rural communities experience unique health disparities, the College offers a concentration in rural nursing, known as RNURSING.
About RNURSING:
Health disparities affecting rural communities stem from unique social, economic and behavioral factors. It takes specialized professionals to deliver effective care. RNURSING helps advanced practice nursing students to develop those specialized skills for practicing in rural settings while helping to mitigate the health disparieties caused by a shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.
RNURSING Program Features:
The RNURSING concentration consists of:
- A series of eight, one-credit-hour courses offered over four years of enrollment in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program
- Interprofessional education and practice initiatives that aim to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in rural communities
